I started in chickens about 4 years ago as a trial to see if we wanted them. The start was rocky as we got meat chickens and didn't really have any idea what we were doing! It has been a learning process. I only recently found BYC but I'm learning already.
We have 40 hens right now that are mostly Isa Browns, with the oldest group being 2. The other breeds include RIRs, 3 white silkies, a SLW, a BR, and a FBCM.
We have 10 chicks in the brooder that I've posted some sexing questions about. I'm thinking three Roos out of the group but they are only 3 weeks. We are hoping to keep 2 or so Roos around and the rest will head to freezer camp. (8 of the chicks are the natural offspring of the FBCM hen. The possible contributing roosters are a white silkie, a blue crested white polish, a Swedish flower hen, and a Swedish flower hen/faverolle. They all look very different and have been fun to watch grow.) The remaining 2 were added later and it appears we have a CL pullet and roo.
Our bator has 16 eggs of varying colors and sizes so it will be interesting to see what we get. The eggs were set last night.
We have 42 acres and raise Show cattle, Nigerian Dwarf goats for milk, and feeder pigs.
We have three children. Two daughters: 6 and 2 (youngest has Spina Bifida) and one son: 3.
I'm an ICU RN. My husband is an engineer.
We are hoping to end up with a self-sustainable flock that provides eggs and meat. Our kids are enjoying the colored eggs and the tiny Silkie eggs!
We also have 7 dogs, 9 barn cats, and 2 guinea pigs.

] you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

to have you join the family. Enjoy your time here!
