Hi my name is Sarah. I am 32, married with 2 daughters. We just got our first chickens a couple of weeks ago. I had 16 eggs and 12 hatched. It was the first time we had ever hatched eggs. One of our chicks died and we are not sure why but we still have 11 which is plenty. I don't know if they are male or female but they are now 2 weeks old. I also hatched to goslings. They hatched last Thursday. It has been so much fun watching them hatch and grow. We have a coop outside for the chickens when they get bigger. I Don't really have a place for the goslings so they may go to a farm. They are so sweet though. It will be hard to let them go. They all eat a lot more than I ever thought they could. LOL. Thanks for letting me join this page. I am really excited to learn and watch them grow.

Welcome to BYC - congrats on your successful hatch. Sorry you lost one, but the reality is that sometimes happens and, ultimately, you've had great luck so far with having lost just one from those that hatched.
Hopefully you have a farm already lined up for the goslings? It's important to have a good plan in place when one sets about creating lives to be responsible for - similar to having a plan for any cockerels that result from hatching that are in excess of what one wants/plans to keep in their own flock.
What breed(s) did you hatch?

They are Easter Egg chicks. Yeah I have a place for the geese. The eggs came from there and he just wanted to see if I could hatch them. They are all so sweet. It's a shame they can't all stay small. But then I guess we wouldn't get any eggs. LOL. Thanks for your reply.

I second the congratulations on your first hatch. That was a very good hatch rate, even for someone with a lot of experience. You should be very pleased!

very good hatch, you must be a natural at this. So many experienced people have one bad hatch after another. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Welcome to BYC, Sarah. Glad you decided to join our flock. Congratulations on a successful hatch. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi Sarah, welcome to BYC!
