Hi I am Eddie from Reading and have 6 Hens at the mow; a mixture of Marans and Road Island Reds. Well they are not true bred but will keep me going in eggs for a while.
I used to do the shows years ago. Ardenley. Just to show a few birds. I have a couple at home; one sick with a thorn or something stuck in its foot the other is a young Welsummer ( my fav birds)
I will breed a few this year and next ; Welsummers to see how it goes. Give a few to other allotment holders as they are kind folk. Anyhows glad to be here.

Hello Eddie and welcome to BYC. I am in Maryland. This year is the first year that we got some chicks in the spring. I also got 2 Welsummers and a few other breads
2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Easter eggers. Mine are about 23 weeks now so I hope we will gets eggs soon from them all. Only one of the EE's are laying so far. My RIR is checking out the nest boxes and even sitting in them does her song and lays nothing at all. Its funny as she does this for the last week as she follows in one of our older Orpington into the nest boxes. I have one RIR left as the other was a rooster and we had to get rid of it here where I live. My Welsummers don't even seem interested in the nest boxes yet or even watching what the other girls are doing. They just seem to hang out and do there own thing. Not to sure at what age they begin to lay. So for now its wait and see who lays next the other EE or the RIR. Its a toss up for now. When did your Welsummers begin to lay for you?

Welcome :) I too used to show, raised heritage RIRs at the time. I'm just starting up a new flock, mixed blue/copper Marans, black/copper marans, and assorted Easter eggers. Raising from eggs I got from a friend who has a backyard flock and she only has maran roos so I know I'll have some pure Marans and hopefully some olive eggers. Pretty excited since I've never kept a mixed flock before and never any breed other than RIR. Looking forward to seeing news on your breeding and of course... :welcome

Hi Eddie, very nice to meet you. Are you in the UK, I noticed you mentioned 'alotment
holders'. It's likely your bird with the sore foot has "bumble foot," Put that in the search box and hopefully articles on treatment and care, will pop up.
