Good Evening.
I am a massive animal lover and aim to one day have my own property amd a mini farm. After moving to a more rural location i got myself a couple of chickens and its been very up and down experience! I started with 2 isa browns and 1 black australorp all purchased at same time & on advice that the breeds will get along. ( my last place my landlord had isa browns and i took care of them) So i learnt chickens are colour racists lol and my poor black betty was really getting bullied. I did everything i could to stop it after reading on this site but sadly the Mean Isa passed away after 8mths frim a prolapsed vent. So Tash and Betty became good mates and all was happy in the coop. Betty put on weight, her comb was bright and red and she was allowed to sleep on the perch at night!! 2 weeks ago i lost my baby Tash (isa) to a random dog. .I was devastated as i just had their jumpers made and we spent the morning hanging out.. More devastating was hearing Betty calling out for her in the backyard. I was worried hiw it would effect her after a traumatic childhood and ended up getting 2 Sussex hens for free as lady needed to rehome them due to moving and was told tbry were very mellow and easy going. Well as to be expected Betty is back at the end of pecking order but seems to be handling it better until i get another black australorp to keep her company. Im now having some concerns which ill post after. Ive attached some photos of my girls
