Stewy, never argue with the wife. They don't listen to
logic.
But you on the other hand, must use logic to win the
game. And chicken math...
Here's how you go...
Your wife allowed you to have six hens. But that's all,
she said. Stewy can't have any more.
Tell her how wonderful she is, how much six hens mean
to you. And promise her faithly that, no sir, you won't get
no more chickens for Stewy. You're a good husband.
But that one Leghorn...she's lonely. Needs a buddy. So get
her a couple of buddy hens. When caught, carefully explain
that the "new ones" aren't yours at all...they belong to the
first leghorn.
And everyone just knows that 3 is an odd number. So you have
to go the the next even number to find balance in the flock. I think
6 is the next even number after 3 in chicken math. Wife will
surely understand balance is for the betterment of the flock. You
didn't really want to do it, you just had too.
Now those 2 Isa browns you mentioned first... that's almost
enough. Unless something was to happen, just leaving you one.
One just wont' work. So you better pick up a spare while you can.
Still not REALLY your chicken, see. It's just a "spare", hanging out
in case you need her. And that spare made 3, so of course you had
to go the the next even number. Get one more. Your wife will
completely understand.
And that incubator you picked up at a yard sale..(she doesn't
need the truth until the credit card comes in the mail)...well,
that incubator deal was just to good to pass.
Toss a couple dozen eggs in there. When questioned, swear
they were grocery store eggs...can't hatch. Show her the cartons
even. Can't no way hatch, tell her. Your're just trying it out.
Remember to act totally surprised in 21 days when those chicks
jump out.
Your wife will be totally excited by then.
Best of all, new chicks don't really count as real chickens, on
account of they can't lay eggs yet, and this is chicken math after
all.
So you see that you can turn your six hens into 40, 50 chickens
with no problem.
But of course, you're going to need a bigger coop now...I don't
know how you're to slip that one by her.
Just bring home one extra board every time you go to town? She
wont expect a thing.
But in the whole process, remember NEVER to lie to your wife.
Makes them mad if they figure it out. You can swear you've still
only got the six hens she allowed you to have...the others just
extra.
