Ive had chickens for a couple times over the last several years, mostly isa browns for eggs.

I had 7 hens in total. Recently two of my isa browns went broody in a lawn mower catcher, so i decided to buy and put some fertilised eggs under them, most of them cracked, and others went bad, one nearly made it, after 29 days they discarded the last egg. I found a chick developed inside but it didnt absorb the yolk and was not alive. Around day 26 i got some 1.5-2 week old chicks and put them under the hens at night, 3 black australorp and 3 isa browns. In the morning the hens seemed very happy and 1 week later now theyve bonded very well. The hens are more fierce than ever at protecting them.

I keep them enclosed in a A-frame coop in the main pen and let them out when i lock up the older hens. The chicks seems very energetic and fly about and jump through the branches of trees.

Im in Australia. I was hoping to get some Australian Bresse in the future, however it seems they are only sold under contract at Avgen and are probably very expensive. I wonder if they will be released for backyard chicken owners in the next few years?

G'Day from FNQ Jonathan :frowWelcome!

To be honest, I had not heard of the Australian Bresse until today ;) However, as others have mentioned, do trying posting on the Aussie Thread as someone there may be able to assist.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
