Hello everyone - new chicken parent here! I'm looking forward to the conversations and learning more from you all :)

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Completely new! We started looking into them after seeing chicks at a local store. After a ton of research, we decided it was for us and jumped in.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Four.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Two Buff Orpingtons and two Golden Laced Wyandottes.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

It's been a lot of fun to watch them develop and grow over the past few weeks. It's also been nice to watch out kids with them.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Tinkering with electronics & home automation, hiking, watches, & retro gaming / computing.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We have two kids, a Goldendoodle, and a hamster. I'm a software engineer.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I asked a chicken related question on Mastodon and someone pointed me here :D

If you look under the Articles Tab above, you get to where the Learning Center is. There may be some articles in there about raising chicks or chickens that you'd find helpful. They are all written by our members.

Thank you all for the warm welcome - you all are so kind! I've been check out the learning center and there's so much info there! I know I'll be consulting it all the time :)

I neglected to mention where I'm from in my post. I'm in West Virginia - hi to any fellow Mountaineers out there!
