    Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure where to start so I guess I'll try the blabber/drool method, with an occasional "inquisitive chicken head bobs" that I'm sure you're all so in love with.

My sisters' son went to an auction and purchased a lot of 21 chickens which included 1 Banty Rooster a number of Bar Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Jersey Giants and Guineas. She lives in "not so rural" NJ, where I'm sure you'll agree, that neighborhoods and roosters don't make for the best of situations. My father lives in rural Virginia and over the many years that he's been retired here he's been the recipient of numerous organic and inorganic drop offs.

In the meantime my sister, concerned about our fathers well being convinced me that my social liquidity was best suited to go a stay with him. Do you smell a conspiracy? Nah, just my imagination. So I've been becoming, ever so slowly, wrapped up with all things that concern chickens.

Research has since showed me that roosters and hens can be acquired a number of ways and generally speaking hens are more costly than roosters. Do you see where this is going?.....I WAS wondering why near the beginning of our affair that I was recipient of more than my fair share of those inquisitive head bobs from the chickens when I'd use my best soothing voice to say "Hi girls" to these chickens.......ALL roosters..ugh!

Well I picked up a selection of hens from McMurray Hatcheries and as things have progressed I'm seeing my best options will be reading BYC and inquiring within....

Sooooo....here I am. As things get more settled down I look forward to recieving the best darn chicken advice that can be found on the planet. Giving, also. I'm determined to make my chickens rotten, er..spoiled rotten that is.

"Uck uck uck uck uck" Popeye, one of my rooster Rocks wanted ya'll to hear that.

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Tenderized as a child by my grandparents chickens, New? I'd have to say yes - about 5 or 6 months ago

    (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 24

    (3) What breeds do you have? RIR,BR,JG thats Rhode Island Reds, Bar Rocks and Jersey Giants as best as I can tell.

    (4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Prayed and an image appeared, woke up and did a google search.

    (5) What are some of your other hobbies?Farmwork doesn't provide for much in the way of hobbies. Have to say Pool/Billiards - PC and everything tech

    (6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.Dad, Lady the horse, Layla the Presa Canario, numerous feral cats. Used to work on people...I say that because mainly it's not the computers that break. Was a customer engineer responsible for a wide array of equipment ranging from pro printers to enterprise systems.
