Every time I search anything about my chickens it brings me here and I decided its about time I join! I live in Southern California and am currently raising my first flock ever. I have 3 "red production hens" whatever that means, and 2 white chickens I believe to be leghorns. I also have three 4-1/2 week old white chicks that may be leghorns as well. Hoping I only get 1 rooster, if any!

heres all my grown up ladies

and my avatar picture is the chicks at about 3 weeks!

! Happy you joined us! Production Reds are a common chicken you'll find in farm and ranch stores and hatcheries - they are a cross of the Rhode Island Red and the New Hampshire Red (and sometimes other breeds) - bred for high egg production. They are sometimes sold under the name Red Star or Cinnamon Queen. Some hatcheries use these names interchangeably while others claim there are differences. The ones I have came as Red Stars - great layers and very friendly - I think you will be pleased with yours. Best wishes and happy holidays!

Hello and welcome to BYC

Those white hens looks like Leghorns to me. I have 4 of them and though they are a bit skittish, they are fantastic egg layers.
