I have just started the chicken adventure! We have been researching and gathering up the courage for several years and have finally purchased our first babies! I'm calling it alternative motivation, as coop has been put to the back burner for years now and this makes it necessary for completion! The babies are 4 weeks old, 8 in total, silver lined wynadotta (sp?), rhode island red, cornish cross and Easter eggers. Everyone is happy and healthy. Our 5 yo is adapting well and being crazy gentle and respectful of them and keeping up her chicken hygiene (washing hands before and after). I just wanted to say hi, I think we are prepared with information but I'm completely sure I will have lots of questions!
Welcome to BYC.
I notice you have Cornish Cross in your list of breeds - are you aware of the fact that those are meat birds? Only asking as many folks get them without realizing that.
