I have a sick duck she can't walk she's losing a lot of weight and a joints making weird popping noises this has been going on for some time now I'm taking them to vet repet repeatedly I ain't got the money to do so anymore what can I do to help her she's getting worse each day

If your vet visits are helping, and you can't afford more visits, is it time for her to be put down?

Sometimes, the kindest option -- when there is no quality of life left -- is to let go. I had to do that last summer for one of my hens who I'd raised from a chick. Cordelia was also losing weight and couldn't walk anymore, and the vet couldn't help her. Watching her suffer was as hard as losing her.

I did my best to make her as comfortable as possible, gave her a treat or two, and held her as she was given the injections and she passed.

I want to welcome you to BYC. I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I wish I could help somehow, but I have no experience with ducks.
I'm assuming that you have tried supplemental niacin?

Welcome to the forums, Ralph. I'm very sorry about your duck.

Watching her suffer was as hard as losing her.

I think it is far more difficult to watch any animal suffer if there is no hope for recovery. Letting them go at that point is the best thing for all involved and the only relief to be found. We are ALL going to die some day and we have no idea when that day is.

Sounds like a niacin deficiency. Have you tried giving your duck a vitamin b-3 supplement?
