Good Luck!

outside roosting on your deck, is a sure death sentence for them. They belong inside a closed up coop at night. If they won't go in, you'll have to manually put them on the roost, one by one..

Visit the predator threads and find out what you can do to prevent attacks, then beef up security around your coop and run. Every time a predator gets an easy meal, he will continue to come back until there are no more birds to eat.

If you have an outdoor run - cover it, even if it's just with netting, to discourage air born attacks. Raptors don't like risking injury to their wings or they will become a meal for someone else.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a great experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens and has made lap pets out of our Black Australorps (my favorite, standard breed) and Buff Orpingtons, although she says that our Ameraucanas (actually ours are Easter Eggers as true Ameraucanas lay only blue eggs) are her favorites. She loves the colored eggs that they lay. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
