Hi chicken friends

Hi y'all! My family and I live in Central VT and are getting our first flock of hens this summer. This has long been a goal of mine and I'm so excited to finally be doing it!

We plan to get 12 chicks (golden comet, barred rock, and ameraucana) this year.

I know very little about caring for chickens. I have watches many videos abd talked to lots of people with flocks but I'm a hands on learner so all bets are of until my girls get here.

We are getting hens for egg production. I would like to have a larger flock one day and include hens for meat production as well.

I live with my husband and 2 kids (5 y.o. and 2.5 y.o.), my parents and their dog. We live in a rural area and are stewarding this land into a cozy homestead.

I am an acupuncturist and herbalist, and I'm passionate about local food, food system security, and regenerative lifestyles. It's a lot to work toward for a girl born and raised in the suburbs like me, and I think it's a worthy goal to devote my life to.

My neighbor encouraged me to use this resource and said it has such an incredible community and wealth of information. I look forward to growing with you all!
Welcome! So glad you joined! It's great here. :welcome:frow That's a nice sounding flock you've got there! :)

Welcome to BYC. So glad to meet you! Best wishes with your plans. Noodle around in the Forums - you will find lots of areas of interest to homesteaders - garden and crop discussions, all sorts of poultry and other livestock, too. Enjoy those birds!
