2nd year chicken dad here. upstate NY area. we have 3 one-year-old buff orps, and 3 weeks ago we got a buff and 5 barred rock chicks to join the flock. they haven't met yet but we are going to gradually introduce them over the next few weeks. we have a fortified coop and run but used to let the buffies free range until a fox got one in broad daylight. we have a little over a half acre fenced in but they really loved the woods and cornfields. now they stay inside the fence and only when i'm around to watch for hawks.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Solar motion lights, I know for a fact, have helped keep the wild critters away, as well as our dogs. If they can't hunt on our property at night, they move on to somewhere else where they can. Your fox coming in your yard in broad daylight felt very brave. I'm sorry! :hugs
