(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

My husband and I bought property in November of 2017 and ordered a "Special Assorted Bargain" of spring chicks that arrived in February 2018. We are still pretty new!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We have 21 chickens!

(3) What breeds do you have?

We have a Dominique rooster, 1 buff orpington, 2 dark brahmas, 1 California leghorn, 1 welsummer, 2 silver-laced cochins, 1 "easter egger", 2 blue jersey giants, 2 that I can't remember, and tonight, we just adopted a small flock of Olandsk (show quality breeding pair and six chicks) from an elderly man who lives in our town and can't keep up with chickens anymore.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Google search, recommendations from many other chicken owners.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Who needs other hobbies? Just kidding! I'm starting to love pretty much everything farming, but I also dabble in video gaming, soap-making, and food preservation.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I work full-time in a government job. My husband is in commercial construction. We have two boys, 17 & 18, three dogs, two cats, and a pair of pigs.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I've known about you guys since November, but this evening when I got home from adopting this small family of Olandsks, and started researching, I realized what a gem I had fallen into, and realized I might need a little advice and help with my new babies, so I finally quit lurking and registered!

Glad you decided to join us...
I actually spent a couple years lurking before I finally took the plunge.

You've come to the right place! I’m sure you'll find lots of information and friendly people here if you ever need help or have questions. And yes, we would all love to see some pictures of your flock!!

Good luck in your new chicken adventure!
