Southern California High Desert
Have been reading everyone's good advice and tips for months......ok almost a year know. started raising chicks in Sep 2012, they are doing fine and have been living outside for several months now, only a small flock of 5, 2 RIR, 2 EE and 1 white and black??? should have eggs in late Feb/Mar. I have really enjoyed watching them eat grow, eat grow, eat and grow some more, hoping for eggs soon. I live in the Southern High Desert part of Calif. we had snow during the first week of January, (yes it does snow in california) but the Girls did not mind it at all. they are in a 10W X 15L X 7T open slat style with a solid roof hen house completly covered in chicken wire, within the hen house is an 3x5 roost house and 2 nesting buckets. Working on the outside run 7W X 15L, but have found out that it will also need some type of roof due to birds of pray. my climate will go from the mid teens to over the hundred, and then there are the winds at 30mph with guess to 65mph or more at times so I have to have a hen house for every weather type.
