There are others from Ontario here. They keep their chickens in the back yard.

Well, its a moot point now. I just found out (minutes ago) that in my town, it's prohibited to keep livestock.

I searched the online bylaws for my town, and it's a no-go. That's a shame. I really wanted to raise them as food for us & for their eggs. Too much damn over Municipal governance. They overlook everything you do.
