I’m on about 6 acres in northern Illinois and have been raising various poultry for about 6 years. Currently, I have about 50 chickens including 20 Crx, 12 Orpington (Buff and lavender), 8 brown sex links, 10 Jersey giants, and then I have some odd balls like a Transylvanian naked neck roo, a Brahma roo and a copper Maran roo. I also have 3 turkeys, 2 pekins, and 3 Guineas. Then there are 9 Muscovy eggs due to hatch Saturday in the incubator. Once those are finished, I’ll be starting the pekin eggs, then the turkey and Guinea eggs. If they all cooperate.
I am pretty much homebound as I don’t drive due to a seizure disorder, so this little farm is my life unless the kids and grandkids come over. We also have 3 dogs and 3 cats, and I’m always trying to fix things myself around here. My hubby is a truck driver, so the farm is mostly my responsibility. I enjoy it though. It keeps me busy and not wallowing in my aches and pains. I have creatures relying on me, so I have to get up and go. It’s great incentive. We’ve been looking up things on the forum here since the beginning. It’s been an incredible resource for us. Honestly, I thought it’s about time I pay it forward and participate. Have a great day!!!
