Hi Everyone! I am so happy to be part of this group!

Greetings and welcome to BYC Tina! So glad you joined us. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me :old will never remember from this thread. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

My name Is Tina and I am from Michigan. I have had chickens for about 3 years now. I am always having to learn more because it seems like something different happens all the time lately. It was easy the first 2 years but this 3rd year has been a learning experience for sure. I have about 30 laying hens and I have just started raising and incubating silkies :). I do it just because once I got my first few chickens I just loved them.
:welcome :jumpy

Silkies generally make great broody hens. Once they are broody you can slip fertile eggs under them and they will hatch and raise them as their own. If you have a rooster, you won't need to buy fertile eggs unless you want to bring in new bloodlines.

You may want to check out the "Silkie thread." and learn more about them. They are very popular and some folks have them to use as "living incubators."

G’Day from down under Tina :frow Welcome!

This is a link to the Silkie Thread Diva mentioned.

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.
