My husband and I recently joined the ranks of backyard chicken farming. We live in the city and decided it would be fun to raise our own eggs instead of making the trip weekly to the farmers market. We purchased 2 rhode island reds and 2 silver wyandottes to start this new venture off. Of course I fell in love with them and had to name each one. Yesterday we added 4 Silkies to our flock and I am amazed at how cute and sweet these little girls are! All are still a little too young yet to lay but we're looking forward to the day we get our first egg :)
Thanks to everyone in here for all the wonderful tips and advice. We have learned so much by reading and studying from all your hands on experience.

Smart idea to just raise your own chickens and have your own eggs!

Sounds like you have a nice and pretty assortment of chicks.

What color Silkies did you get?

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Yes, my little Silkies are just precious and very tame. I love giving them tons of attention too! You cant help but smile when you watch them.
