Hi everyone! My name is Colleen & I live in Herndon VA!

I am very excited as I only moments ago found out that because I live in the Town of Herndon I can have one Hen or one duck. I was then saddened as I realized they are social animals and was not sure what to do. I am going to talk to the town and see if I could have 2 or 3 which is all I had wanted in the first place but if I cannot will a solo bird be ok?

Solitary hens are lonely - maybe your council will understand that chicken are best kept in groups of at least 2 or 3, and that that is still a small number very unlikely to cause issues.

That is what I am going to go for. My other thought is possibly getting a duck. Would they be ok solo?

Hi Colleen, I don't know if you ever got your hen, but I did want to let you know that the code has been updated and Town of Herndon residents are allowed 4 hens on lots of 10,000 square feet or over.
