Hi everyone! I have been reading this site for about 2 years now (since I first considered being a chicken owner!) but finally decided to join the community! So, to introduce myself,
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes! I have been a chicken owner for about a year and a half now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We currently have 13 chickens and 2 ducks.

(3) What breeds do you have? We have a pretty diverse flock. We have 2 ISA Browns, 2 White Leghorns, 2 Gold Laced Wyandottes, 3 Easter Eggers (were told they are Ameraucana's ... but I doubt it... doesn't really matter, though. We love them anyway!!), 2 Black Sex Links, 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, and 2 Khaki Campbell Ducks.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? When I was originally researching chickens, this site was a wealth of information!!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hobbies, what are those!?! I have 4 kids and 15 birds, I don't have time for hobbies!! :lau But really, when I can carve out a little me time, I love to garden, read, and due to my extremely nosy nature, I have a feeling I am going to spend WAY too much time on this forum!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Well, I already mentioned my kiddos (2 boys, 2 girls). I have an amazing husband that supports (read, reluctantly tolerates) my fairly new chicken obsession. We also have a 7 year old dog that still thinks she is a puppy. She is quite the spaz! I am a professional Mommy, but my youngest 2 are in preschool now, so I may no longer have an excuse to stay home... so sad about that! :hit Not really ready for the babies to grow up *sigh* Well, that's me in a nutshell!

On a much more serious note, since I am fairly new to this forum I am not sure if I should open a whole new thread (I want to respect forum etiquette!) But we have had our first loss to a predator and I have questions!! We are concerned about the rest of our flock.

Do you have any idea on what it could be? Are there raccoons, foxes, and/or hawks in your area?

Hello! And yes. We have raccoons, coyotes, hawks, bald eagles, weasels, fox, opossum, skunks... the choices are endless! There have also been a couple of rogue German Shepherds in the area, oh, did I mention my neighbors feral cat? When I look at the list like that, I'm actually surprised it took a year and a half before we lost one!

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya Do post over on the predators page, but you can share a picture of the victim we will also try to help identify your predator. 1/2" welded wire and electric fencing are my go to's. So sorry for your loss:hugs
