Hello.
I joined about a week ago, but haven't found time until now to join the forum section of this site. I am only a hobbiest chicken owner at the moment but I am hoping to start a small business later on down the road. I have Buff Orpingtons which was my very first flock and recently I purchased Australorps, white rocks and some Americanas.
At the moment I am looking into purchasing a few white egg laying pullets, so as to have a few white eggs in the box. What could you all on BYC reccomend as a good white egg laying breed to go with my orpington rooster Eggbert?

Thanks so much for all your helpful advice,
Brigette

Welcome to BYC!

So glad you are finally getting to stop by our great community! Lots of great knowledge and like minded chicken owners here on BYC!

The LegHorns are great white egg layers, although can be a bit skittish. Naked Necks lay white eggs and are a nice breed to have around. You might want to check out this external link to a breeds page with lots of quick info on all the breeds and the color of egg they lay...

This should get you started. There will be other members stop by here to welcome you to BYC that may have more info than I do.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you are putting together a nice flock for a very colorful egg basket. TwoCrows gave you a good link for ideas on breeds. X2 on the Leghorns, the commercial White Leghorns are probably the most popular white egg layer, the other colors are also pretty good, the Exchequer and the Browns especially...some of the other colors do lay a tinted egg rather than a white though ime. For other breeds, I am really partial to Anconas, I've liked the ones I have, very good layers and pretty birds, not as active as the Leghorns. Minorca are another breed to consider, especially if you plan on free ranging. If you want smaller birds or don't mind smaller eggs, the Hamburgs tend to be good layers also. Check the BYC Breeds section for member reviews on breeds you are thinking about for more opinions.

Thanks everyone for all the friendly welcomes and advice.
I am so happy today! I just had my first incubator hatch, a little orpington was born. This is my first time be a broody hen myself, so I was a little nervous about the whole thing. I didn't have no humidifier so technically I was just winging it.
I have been thinking about going with Buff Minorcas or Blue Andulusians. The Minorcas would be nice because they would look a lot like my other orpington hens.

What about Marans and Welsummers? I have been thinking about adding a chocolate egger to my nest boxes.

Well thanks again,
Brigette

Congrats on the new baby!!!! It is so much fun to hatch and it never gets old watching an egg turn into a small life. Good luck on future hatches too!
