Hello.
I joined about a week ago, but haven't found time until now to join the forum section of this site. I am only a hobbiest chicken owner at the moment but I am hoping to start a small business later on down the road. I have Buff Orpingtons which was my very first flock and recently I purchased Australorps, white rocks and some Americanas.
At the moment I am looking into purchasing a few white egg laying pullets, so as to have a few white eggs in the box. What could you all on BYC reccomend as a good white egg laying breed to go with my orpington rooster Eggbert?
Thanks so much for all your helpful advice,
Brigette

and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you are putting together a nice flock for a very colorful egg basket. TwoCrows gave you a good link for ideas on breeds. X2 on the Leghorns, the commercial White Leghorns are probably the most popular white egg layer, the other colors are also pretty good, the Exchequer and the Browns especially...some of the other colors do lay a tinted egg rather than a white though ime. For other breeds, I am really partial to Anconas, I've liked the ones I have, very good layers and pretty birds, not as active as the Leghorns. Minorca are another breed to consider, especially if you plan on free ranging. If you want smaller birds or don't mind smaller eggs, the Hamburgs tend to be good layers also. Check the BYC Breeds section for member reviews on breeds you are thinking about for more opinions.
