Hi! I have been following for a little while to learn about chickens. Now that we have them, I wanted to start participating. I do live in a neighborhood, but have 3 acres. My son has been obsessed with chickens since he was 2 when he asked Santa for one. Everythinh has been about chickens since. Now that he is 10 and has shown mire responsibility with our dog and learning about chickens, we bought 10 chicks. This is all new to us. I look forward to learning more and participating!

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. Seems you have a nice brooder and coop already done - well done!

Here's a few links on raising chicks that may be interesting:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/raising-your-baby-chicks

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

I'm sure your son will take excellent care of the chicks. He really looks involved with them. That's great. Just be sure the wire top doesn't get blocked, chicks do need air, and the brooder is solid sided all around.

Welcome!

I love the pic of the kids watching the chicks .. beats television any day! Best wishes to you all.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
