I am so happy to have found this knowledgeable group! My husband, Joe, and I are new chicken owners as of about 10 days ago and have a lot to learn. Right now we have 4 of what we thought were layers but it turns out two are Cornish X- a hen and a cockerel- Tractor Supply is making it right tomorrow. Our other two are Speckled Sussex, we believe. We will probably get 4 more layers tomorrow and are rehoming the meat birds since we are too attached already and don’t want to process them.
Our whole family (son and daughter) is enjoying watching the chickens scratch and dust bathe- very entertaining. We also have a dog, 2 cats, and a parakeet. We love working outdoors- gardening and taking walks together and live in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains near Boone, NC.
