Hi everyone! I'm a complete newbie to hen keeping. We adopted 3 light Sussex hens 3days ago from what we know they are around 10 months old. I'm a bit worried as 2 have lighter combs and wattles than the other 1 (she seems to be the top hen) . All seem to be mite free and happily scratching at the dirt and foraging as well as drinking, eating their treats and feed. Could the stress of relocation be the cause of the lighter comb?

Hi there. Welcome to BYc. I am no chicken expert but I can tell you when I first got my two hens. They were four months old and the first week I had them they both had runny , stuffy noses , I thought what is this did he give me sick birds? But I used vet Rx , and they got better and I think it was the stress of moving.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

It does take time for the pullets to adjust to their new home. As long as they are eating, drinking and behaving normally otherwise, they will be okay.
Do you have Corid on hand? Oftentimes when a bird is moved to entirely new ground their bodies are not acclimated to the coccidia oocysts present in the soil and can develop coccidiosis. It's better to have a coccidiostat on hand, just in case, so you can act fast.
