Thank you! Hoping I can keep most of them but the experience in itself has been beautiful and I'm sold lolHello! Welcome to BYC! Sounds to me that those birds found the perfect owner! Best if luck with them!![]()
Thank you so very much for your kind words!Welcome! And thank you for the important work you do as a science teacher ◡̈ I'm in the Hudson Valley but I frequent NYC!
and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
to have you here with us. Enjoy your time here at BYC!
Welcome. It is very kind and thoughtful of you to take in rescues. I really wish more people would give chickens who need it a second chance home instead of hatching. Thank you.I am a seasoned Public Middle School Science teacher and licensed NYC wildlife rehabilitator in my spare time that has stumbled upon the world of backyard chickening. I received my first four that were found wandering the streets of Brooklyn about a month ago. I am so in love.
I currently have just the four and from the research and questioning I've done, it seems that I have me some Production Reds. Trouble is, I don't know if they are hens or roos. In NYC we cannot have roos in which case I will need to find them homes and start anew.
I'm animal lover and even have 6 rescued pigeons at home. I have been doing my research for the past year and decided I wanted to give a home to those chickens who needed one instead of starting with chicks. I have a backyard and set up a coop that was donated to me out back and predator proofed it. I do plan to upgrade it and to upgrade the run size as well. My kids help me care for them and I've found that I love running home for lunch to just sit with the birds as the free range under my supervision since we do have a hawk or two flying around every so often. I also have released squirrels in my yard and it is fun to watch the two forage side by side.
I stumbled upon BYC over and over again as I researched chickens and I have found so much great information here that it was a no brainer to join!
Happy to be here!
I'm fairly certain that you have a cockerel.Best I have so far lol thank you for the welcome!
