Hi Everyone!

I am new to the site and new to chickens. I have wanted to raise my own chickens and have just purchased a piece of property in Toney, Alabama with the hope of starting a small hobby farm. My 4 year old granddaughter and I are going to learn about chickens together. I wonder if there is anyone in the Toney, Alabama area who might let us visit and get some hands on experience. I bought my granddaughter a copy of Chicken magazine and she actually sleeps with it!

I don't mind traveling a little if she gets the chance to experience finding eggs or feeding. I look forward to getting lots of good advice!

You guys should check out out the Learning Center here. It will tell you all you need to know to get started. For some hands-on experience I'd suggest look for your state thread here:

Yes, I'm sure you'll find lots of people in Alabama in sumi's link. That's one of the states with lots of representatives on here.
