I just hatched out 24 chicks in my kindergarten classroom. The kids enjoyed the entire experience from putting the eggs in the incubator, candling (seeing the chick move inside the egg), hearing them peep before they came out of the eggs, watching them hatch and then watch them play in the brooder. After the whole experience and many books about chicks they wrote about the chicks. I think it was the best writing they have ever done!

! Pleased you joined us! Classroom hatching is such a great learning experience! So, did you end up with any of those chicks?

I didn't keep any of them. I had chickens a few years ago. My son had them as a 4-H project. We didn't have a very good fenced in enclosure so they ended up running around in the yard. That was OK until the rooster came after me one day! They went to my father's farm next door. I loved having the fresh eggs and just watching them scratch and peck at the ground. I hope to be able to have some chickens at some time in the future.
