Just started for the first time to keep 4 Suffolk chickens in our back yard in New Zealand.
First off, I need to stop the sparrows eating all our laying feed and it is costing us a fortune. I imagine the sparrows are going to be laying huge eggs!!! I will look into making a feeder that the chickens can access exclusively.

Your chickens only feeder sounds like a great idea. Not only do the sparrows steal the feed, they can bring parasites and disease along with them. other than very tight, fine mesh around the run and top, I don't know how anyone keeps them out. Welcome to Backyard chickens, glad you joined us

Glad you decided to join us.

One of the treadle feeders should work to keep the sparrows out. Also consider adding a wild bird feeder remote from your chickens to keep them at a distance.
