About bantams:
Bantams are chickens that are 1/4 to 1/2 the size of large-fowl (also called standard) sized chickens. There is a bantam counterpart for almost every large-fowl breed of chicken. It takes two bantam eggs to equal one large-fowl egg, but in proportion to a bantam's body size, the eggs are large.
Bantams are enjoyed because they are small (therefore they can be kept in small spaces), and come in so many different breeds. They're easy for children to handle, too. Bantam cocks are less dangerous than large-fowl cocks as well, because of their small size.
Some common bantam breeds include Leghorns, Wyandottes, Cochins, Brahmas, and Plymouth Rocks. Other less common, but beautiful, bantam breeds include Dutch Bantams, Phoenix, Sumatras, and Polish.
