Hi everyone :). Im new to this site, and I joined because I recently got a baby emden goose (whose name was Ryan) and he passed away this morning. He was the most awesome little guy ever who would follow me around and if i left him alone for any amount of time would squeak, and then "scold" me when I came back until I picked him up. He was going to be my spoiled little boy/girl (we even have goose diapers in the mail lol). I asked the feed store people what to feed geese and they told me that the waterfowl starter would be fine. I had him a week before anything happened, and this morning he couldnt move his right leg and died 2 hours later. From what Ive read Im guessing he was missing greens in his diet. Someone please please help, I miss my little Ryan and am afraid to get another little boy/girl goose.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss!

Ryan sounds like he was a great bird. I would ask your questions about what might have happened in our geese area https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/47/geese Again, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

Sometimes ducks have a problem due to niacin deficiency but, I don't know if it is the same with geese. I'm sure the people on the goose threads can answer your questions.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. So sorry he passed away.

Ryan sounds like a wonderful little guy, I'm so sorry you lost him.

I've never had geese (they're on my wish list) but you may be able to get an answer on the link Mountain Peeps left you.

Good luck with future geese, nice to have you here!
