The template is a great place to start:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Yes and no - I knuckled under to my kids wanting baby chicks and ducks several years ago. Being an avid animal person, it didn't take much. The "yes" is that because none of them lasted over two years [for a variety of reasons], I actually took the time to research and prepare this time around. So a lot is new!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

That's been changing lately - let's just say the adults currently number a little over a dozen. And probably twice that many babies.

(3) What breeds do you have?

If I do anything, I do it full-on, I suppose. In alphabetical order (including babies):
Ameraucana - Wheaten
Belgian d'Uccle
Brahma - Silver-laced currently
Faverolles
Marans - a few varieties
Orpington - Buff, Lemon Cuckoo/Buff split
Plymouth Rock
Polish - will have every color at some point!
Pumpkin Hulsey
Silkie
Sussex - Light and Speckled
Welsummer
Wyandotte - Sliver-laced

And will be adding Mottled Houdans this week. Just wish they were French imports.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

How does one do any kind of internet research on chickens without finding out about BYC?

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

What? "Other" hobbies? When? ;-) Art, living history, tracking ridiculous amounts of data on my chickens…

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Right then. Single mom of 5 ranging from 4 yrs to 20+ (at this moment, there is a different family member in every level of schooling!) Full-time design student working on a BFA and then plan an MFA. Used to show and breed dogs; am an information geek on things I do (see tracking data); Want to reach a point where I am be able to sell eggs and breed a couple of varieties of uncommon chooks. College student here, chickens have to support themselves ya know!

Oh, important: I have a very dry sense of humor. Beware.

Welcome - I am in SV, too! I started in Oct with 6 and although I have rehome a few, I am up to 24.

Are you on the SV Chickens Yahoo Group? BYC is my home but it can be helpful locally.

ETA - I love a dry sense of humor!

Of course - this forum is far too full of crazy chicken people. And we all know that one cannot possibly have a sense of humor, much less dry, when it comes to chickens.

Yes - I'm on both SVChickens and CAChickens. Mostly rambling stories and links to photographic evidence of my [apparently endless] fascination with the feathered fluffies. One would never know there were any other critters running around.

And thank you all for the Hello waves. It's the only social activity I experience these days. ;-)
