Hi folks

I do have some experience with this subject.

My son had a rooster, Jack Daniel's and chickens. The rooster died trying to defend his ladies fair. We kept back eggs to hatch to see if we could get a rooster. We did and named him Jack Jr. As he was growing up the older hens must have realized he was a cockeril because they went from being ok with having him and his sisters around to hen pecking him, that is where the term comes from.

I also wanted him to be a sweeter rooster than his daddy which I thought his bad behavior was from him not getting enough loving when he was little and those girls getting more than their share.

Well, neighbors laughed at my sweet little roo and said I did too good of a job in getting him sweeter than his daddy. Jack Jr would fall asleep in my arms sitting and talking to neighbors.

The original Jack would chase me across the yard and attack the back of my legs as I ran from him. Well I kept my Jack jr's cage in with the old gals and the new gals and they would circle his cage like shark. I tried letting him out and they would take off chasing him.

One day when he realized he was twice their size he stopped running and turned around and went after them! Shockingly they ran from him and have ever since. He captures some and here and some there. Now adays he keeps them all in line and they walk a thin line. The day will come that us if they so not kill him that he will get older and stop running from them.

Cowgirlboots....... Oh how we all enjoyed your reply, I read it out to my family and we've just sat and waited, and waited some more......... Every single word you told me came true - especially the final paragraph! The final battle won against our boss hen, Black Betty, Foggy now rules them all with a rod of iron - even the little Black Rock who was badly feather pecked by the other hens has all her new feathers coming back. They are all well and truly under control. Thank you! (And the phrase 'walking a thin line' is the family's new favourite saying!) :D
