Hi from a new chicken owner in Roswell, GA!

Your EE (fluffy cheeks/beard and green legs) looks an awful lot like a girl who is getting ready to lay to me. Looks just like mine, who laid a pretty green egg. EE aren't the best layers, so could be another month, but sometime in the near future, lol. I also believe that coloring can only be on a girl, if it was a he the pattern would be different. As a matter of fact, all your chickens look like girls to me.

Wow, Julie NKC, I hope you're right!

I could have sworn I heard crowing this morning, though. Sounded like a pretty typical cock-a-doodle doo. I guess time will tell! Maybe I'll catch him in the act tomorrow, whoever he is. :)

What a great flock! I really like your metal enclosure. I was just going to do standard chicken wire, but that looks much more sturdy. Do you have any info you could offer on it? (i.e. where you purchased it?)

Thanks Ufoundshy! Its actually a dog crate :) Just temporary while I'm finishing the coop. Its not really big enough for a permanent coop (its about 4'x4'), so we're using it like a tractor to move around the yard. The company is called "lucky dog" and we got it at petsmart a few years ago.

Thanks for the info! Too bad it's on the small side, huh? I've spent so long wrestling with chicken wire around my gardens that I dread using it for the chickens. But now I'm going searching for a better alternative. Ya just never know where an idea is gonna come from.

If you can, try to get closer pics of your gold laced wyandottes.

The one in the second pic that is outside of the cage looks suspicious to me, lol. My roos all get butt fluff like that.

Haha, the one outside the cage is actually not part of the flock, technically (we're only allowed to have 6 here :)) She's just visiting for a while. We rescued her from an abusive duck and she's been laying really well, so its definitely not her! She's older, so she looks a lot fluffier than the others.

Then I think you have a crowing girl somewhere in there, lol. Almost positive your EE is a girl though, the partridge pattern is always on a girl. The wellsummer has to be a girl too, because she's got the same pattern.

This is a wellsummer hen and roo, and your girls have the same pattern as the hen.
