Hi everyone, I am Mel and from London, UK.
Fairly new to keeping chickens and have encountered my first problem which is how I found this group. I have my first poorly hen and so will be posting also on the sick thread and really hoping to be able to get some help.
So thats me! Nice to meet you all x

Thank you. I have been nursing her for a couple of days and am beginning to think this isn't going to have a happy ending. My sister has convinced me to let her take it to her father in law who is a farmer to look at her as he will know what to do for the best. I know if there is anything that can be done to help her he will do it, but he will also be honest with me if he feels I am just prolonging any pain. Feeling very sad, never thought I would get quite so attached my my girls. Although I think my need to try and "fix" her was overtaking what was the right thing to do for her.

I understand how you feel. I have tried not to get too attached to my chicks, just in case some turn out to be cockerals or some don't make it. But I definitely have my favorites!
Hope your girl pulls thru.

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your hen. It is never easy to watch them go downhill. I hope someone can help you in the emergency section.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your girl, hope you are able to figure out what is wrong with her.

Thank you all for your welcomes and kind words. Sadly we have had to make the hard decision to put her to sleep. She hadn't made any progress and we felt it was kinder than keeping her going. Feeling very sad but I know we made the righ decision. Will miss my little Peri!
