Good Morning,

Am a new egg to the group. Grew up on Long Island, New York by my grandparent's farm. My dad and mom ordered us 30 chicks by mail and that is how I was introduced to chickens. The chicks arrived by mail when there was still snow on the ground and they had to stay in the house. One day one little chick found a way out of the brooder and the rest followed. There were chicks everywhere in the house. Looked liked the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy was trying to find her chicks!

Now many years later and my kids are out of the house, hubby made me a chicken coop for my birthday this month and I got to pick out chicks. We decided to get 4 and went to the local feed store and picked out the girls. 2 are Black Australorps, Apolonia and Sophie (dob 7/28) and 2 are Speckled Sussexes, Josephine and Hazel(dob-8/4). On our trip to the feed store yesterday to pick up a couple things, I wanted one more chick. We got a Delaware, Bridget (dob 7/28). They got along great for a couple hours but now she is in "solitary". Will have to post on another forum about why the new chick is pecking the established girls. Once a mom, always a mom no matter if you have kids or animals. Have to discipline someone!!

I have 3 children, 2 daughters and 1 son. My eldest daughter is married and lives close by. My son is in the Navy and is currently in Virginia. My youngest daughter just flew the coop recently to go to school in California. Our house may be empty of 2 legged children but I still have my 4 legged ones. I have 3 Shih-tzus. Moose is our eldest, will be 16 in October. Murphy & Miley are half siblings...same dad, different mom. Murphy will be 3 in December and Miley will be 3 in January.

Have been looking at BYC the past few weeks to get ideas and read posts on different subjects. Found BYC when I was googling about chickens and what breed is good for Arizona. Hubby wanted brown eggs so that info helped as well.

Eventually will be posting pics of the girls on here. I love taking photos and my dogs know when the camera is out. They get the look on their face "Oh, no! Here she comes with that thing."

I am excited to be here with all you chicken lovers.

Chris

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

To GrandmaAnn- it was very difficult as I would love to have plenty more but our small backyard can only accommodate 5-6.

Since I am new to this, do any of you know how to add photos?

Thanks again!!!

Let's see if this works with pictures.

Love your birds... bought them at the Feed Barn I'd bet...

Hey Mahonri,

We certainly did get them at the Feed Barn in Phoenix. I didn't want to wait to get them in the mail. I would love to get more but can't.
