Hi from Aus

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!!

Hi there I’m from NSW Australia. Are you at all at risk from bushfires?? Or are you safe?
Welcome to BYC and have a wonderful time in this community
Lucky for us the fires are on the other side of the state, I'm in the south west and the fires are in the east of the state. But it's only early in the fire season though so fingers crossed we make it through with no fires starting out near us.

@TwoCrows Thanks for those links I will check them out for sure!

Hi there I'm from Victoria Australia, we have recently moved to a farm and have gotten some of our own chickens. We are planning on being self sufficient or homesteading and want to grow our own meat chickens and eggs. We recently bought two silkies a few months ago to use as live incubators but sadly because of our inexperience I think we bought duds haha think they were kept in a pretty poor environment and their nails were super long and they were pretty dirty should have walked away but felt really bad for them. They were pretty unhealthy when we got them and took a little while for them to bounce back but they are absolutely clueless on how to "chicken" one just wanders around and seems almost disorientated. The other has sort of come back but they both refuse to come out of their coup and free range. We don't know a heap about chickens but we are learning.

We recently got an incubator in the last few weeks and have got quail eggs in it now (they are on day 4) and some chicken eggs too (Legbars and Marans and ISA Browns for eggs). We're planning on getting some sussex and some indian game (cornish) for meat too.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome! :frow This is a really nice community with a wealth of knowledge.

Hopefully so. Very scary situation. Why are so many people starting fires there? I read they have arrested or are investigating about 200 people for arson. That's absolutely nuts. I saw a video yesterday of a guy raging against the government because they won't let him remove brush from around his house. And I read about another guy who lost $100,000 through fines and legal fees because he cleared around his house, but his house was the only one in the community that survived.

Welcome and good luck.

Your very lucky. My house had one less than 4k’s from it. Dangerous things Bushfires are.

That’s so awesome. For now I think we are okay but the constant threat of it coming down the mountain is a bit unnerving
I can only imagine:barnieIt's interesting to actually hear from people, who are personally effected by such a tragedy!
