Hi, I've been a backyard chicken farmer for about 10 years. I'm down to one chicken, and she's got foot problems. She's black and white and was adopted. I also have two blue heelers (one of whom has killed four birds over the years and was trained to stop killing and now has gone blind and doesn't chase anything anymore). My other hobbies include gardening, reading, mosaicing, and assemblage. I'm an environmental engineer by trade. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Definitely stop by our ER forums for help. I know what its like to be down to your last bird. I recently lost my 9+ year old hen from old age. She was alone for quite awhile. I kept her company as much as I could, went free ranging with her, gave her a giant mirror so she could hang out with her reflection and a radio on in the coop to keep it "alive" in there for her. She seemed quite content until she passed on.

Sorry to hear about your chickens and your dog going blind.
I spent some time in Austin in my yoot! I'm an Environmental Chemist by training but now a Cable and Harness Engineer.
 
Did you get your dogs from a breeder.? Australian Cattle Dogs may have the genetic defect for PRA progressive retinal atrophy.* A breeder would/should have screened the breeding stock and individual puppies (if they were old enough).

* PRA leads to blindness
