Hi,
I am a new chick owner, as of Wed., my day old ladies came to me. I did order some Americanas, barred rocks and some orphingtons!! I am very excited about, though now I have to move quick to get my coop and run done, 6 wks. for about 25 hens.

I am hoping that I will be able to find an easier and somewhat inexpensive way to build it:) Any help would be wonderful. I have basic tools and my hubby isn't one for building anything!!

Thanks
Amy

from WI.... I am near Madison and have used recycled wood that I got inexpensive at Habitat Restore. Don't know if you have one nearby....
You may also want to try craigslist to see if you can find stuff to build with or dogkennels, fencing, sheds or whatever you think you can use. That way you can save $$$$ and recycle....

I would go look at the Coop Construction site, there are awesome coops and ideas posted, maybe you can get DH interested in helping build one.

Build bigger than you think.....I started out small for my 5 backyard chickens this spring and have already decided "expand"..... Will start to convert my 8x12 garden shed (as of yet) windowless into a chicken house with a small area for storage for chicken supplies. Should have done that to begin with, duh...

Good luck, keep us posted on the chickens and the coop

Hi Amy!

I'm from Central WI, near Stevens Point (Junction City to be exact). As far as coops, I was fortunate, I had a garden shed on site I converted to a coop, but I still had zero construction experience. I did a lot of web-searching and calling my Dad. You can do it, but get a move-on. That 6 weeks is gonna fly by! (no pun intended)
