Hi Lotta3 and Jonny

I'm also a new member in Co. Durham and getting back into keeping hens and like you both, I'm in the process of building a hen ark. I got my chickens a few weeks ago and they are currently in a spare stable. I've got 7 hens and 2 cockerels. I didn't really plan to have 2 guys but one was a gift and he is such a handsome lad! He came with a girlfriend but has since stolen the hearts of my other ladies. Poor Horace (named after Nelson because he has lost his tail and his comb sits at an angle like a tricorn hat) has all but been abandoned. Harry Houdini on the other hand (the gift cockerel and named for his ability to escape in near impossible circumstances) is strutting his stuff in all his finery.

Jonny, I bought my chucks locally from someone I know who was down scaling, but I would expect you would get Rhode Islands from Durham Hens at Tow Law. That's where my friend gets her hens from and she lives in Hartlepool.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello from one Co. Durham newbie to another two!

Best wishes

Barbara
