(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We had chickens growing up but I was a kid then and it was about 20 years ago! We started our new flock last year.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
13 chickens and a duck :)

(3) What breeds do you have?
Barred Rock Rooster, 2 white leghorn hens, a brown leghorn hens, an australorp hen, 2 black sex-link hens, 2 speckled sussex hens, 1 light brahma hen 1 new hampshire red hen, a sultan hen and a rose comb rooster.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They're so fun to watch and do an excellent job of pest control!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a full-time nursing student so I don't have any other hobbies at the moment! We do love traveling, going to wineries, breweries, and all things outdoors.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm in nursing school full-time after spending the last 10 years in banking and deciding I need a change. My husband, 12 year old son and I live in East Texas with our two dogs and our little flock of birds.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Every time I've googled a question about raising a flock, I find a thread on BYC with great information. It's gotten to the point that I scroll through the search results looking for the BYC one! Today I finally had a question I couldn't find an answer to in the search so I decided it was time to join and ask you all in person :)

A big friendly welcome to you @RosiePosey and thanks for joining us here at BYC! :welcome

Thanks so much for telling us a bit about you, your hobbies, your career, and your flock. We are so excited to get to know you more, and see lots of photos of your birds! What kind of duck do you have, I don't think I saw? Also, you found us in a way so many people do- searching questions about flock care leads you here! So glad you had a question you couldn't find an answer to, because now you're a member! There are lots of helpful folks here who really know their stuff, so don't hesitate to post a question if you can't find the answer to it alright?

HomesteaderWife, she's a black duck! lol She was in a clearance tank at the farm store and we got her and a white one, Daisy, but Daisy didn't make it through the year. I'm not sure of the breed for either of them. Unfortunately Daisy was the one and only bird we've had that found out why chickens (and ducks) shouldn't cross the road :( Here's a picture of Elmer and Daisy! We thought Elmer was a boy when we named her because of a curled tail feather but then one day her tail feather straightened out and she started laying eggs.... haha!

:welcome It’s wonderful that you’ve decided to join. We love new opportunities to assist in chicken math! :D I think you should begin with another fifteen chicks, seven ducks and three cows. :thumbsup

Oh, I forgot! We do have a pig, too! I try to forget him because he's kiddo's 4-H project and I hate when we have market animals and have to say farewell so soon.
