We are new to raising chickens but have discussing it for some time. Was planning to start in spring, but wife decided to buy four cute chicks and now I Am Playing Catch up With Building A coop.
400

Got them at 2 weeks. Now they're going on 8 weeks old. 3 black sexlings, one's a rooster and a broiler. She bought them not knowing what straight line means. Been finding lots of great info here and will probably be asking questions soon.

Good luck with your coop-building!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Your Black Sex Links in your picture actually appear to be Black Australorps. Black Sex Links have reddish or copper colored feathers around the neck area. However, Black Australorps are excellent layers as well, and one of the calmest and most gentle of all chicken breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Glad you joined the flock - I think they are Black Australorps as well. Straight run generally translates into a lot more cockerels than pullets. If you live in an area that doesn't allow for roosters, that can be a bad thing. If you plan on having roosters for dinner - not so bad.
