Hi from Hillsboro, MO

Thanks for the welcome :)

Emus DO lay big eggs, but mine was a male named Fang... he thought he was a chicken... raised him from a day old chick with our chickens, he slept in the coop until the second time I found a flattened silkie... apparantly Fang would plop down and sometimes land on a chicken, which during the course of the night would be quite the pancake come morning! He ended up living out his life with the goats, and was a happy emu :)

Hi from Kentucky!!
What did you used to do with your Emu? Was it a pet? I have been fascinated with the idea of hatching an egg, but then what do you do after its hatched? So, I decided not to go for it!

I bought him from a friend the day she hatched him. I raised him on a game bird feed, held him, two teen daughters doted on him. I have heard that a single male is more friendly than a single female... we didn't know what he was for a year or so, and then we ummmm, saw *him* lol You need a really good fence, high anyway. We had 6 acres perimeter fenced with 4 foot field fencing. Worked fine for the goat and everything else, but one day something must have spooked him and he jumped the fence and despite signs and reward offers, the kids in the gated community over the ridge decided it would be more fun to bow hunt him :( We had him about 7 years and he was THE BEST PET EVER!
