I just joined and wanted to say hi and looking forward to learning about chickens.

Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I'm new to chickens. I'm still in the research stages right now but hope to buy my chicks this spring.

How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I found the website when I was researching chicken breeds and coops.

What are some of your other hobbies?

My other hobbies are knitting, sewing, and gardening. I try to keep busy.

Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I live in Boise, Idaho and I'm thankfully in a subdivision that allows us to have chickens. I would love to have a couple of acres of land so I could have more then just chickens. I'm married and have two kids, two dogs, and a cat so hey why not throw some chickens in to the mix. I'm trying to talk hubby into buying a place on a few acres so I can have some other animals too. I think I may have him just about convinced.

Welcome to Backyard chickens - they say chickens are the gateway to other animals - I see ducks, goats, rabbits, maybe an emu in your future.

Planning ahead and obtaining chicks in the spring IMO is the best way to start.

Likely, you have already explored the forums, but if not, do visit the learning center articles on raising baby chicks and managing your flock in addition to the coop/run forums.

I also love sewing, knitting and gardening. If you are interested, there are hobby forums here on those subjects as well.

So glad you decided to join us. Feel free to ask questions, we're here to help.

Nice to see another local Idaho person. I'm in Nampa and just as Drumstick Diva said, "chickens are a gateway to other animals." I started off with chickens, then I got ducks, and then I got peafowl.

I would love to have other animals but first I need to find a place with a little bit of land. :) I told hubby I'd love to have some goats, sheep (I knit and spin) and I'd love to have a miniature horse.
