Hello all!
I just wanted to reintroduce myself. My name is Stephanie. I reside in the Louisville Kentucky area.
I was on here years ago as cheshiechick13. About three years back my entire lavender project silkie flock was massacred by a friggin dog. I had spent SO SO SO much money and time on those beautiful birds, that I just gave up all together after that happened. Well 3 years later here I am. I couldn't even remember my password to that old account so I created a new one LOL.
Right now I have 7 sexlinked girls for eggs in the coop and 14 silkie eggs in the bator. I am so excited, but a bit scared to get back in to this. I hope to get back in to the lavs I was working so hard on years ago, I'm adding porcelains though. I bought four paint silkie eggs too... soooo.... the addiction begins again XD
:)

Definitely! Dog proofing is a must for me now. Said dog belonged to my now husband (dog was immediately rehomed after that). He squeezed his fat head into the run and popped the door. It was a horrible mess. There is nothing NOTHING worse than a dog, they will maul the entire flock because they seem to think its a bunch of feathered play toys! I had a raccoon issue once, and he would take one and attempt to return. This situation was just inSANE! The dog was a husky/boxer mix so there ya go... Needless to say, I'll be much more vigilant about dogs now.

Hello :frow an Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the loss of your first flock. Good luck with the incubation, hope you have a great silkie hatch!

If it isn't dogs its cats (feral or domesticated), raccoons, coyotes, hawks. Opossum and skunks are happy to partake in eggs, as are snakes. You need to build a Ft.Knox, some people use game cams to see what's bothering their flock and /or how they breached security. A few electric fence strands around the enclosure can help.
