Wow! You are REALLY close to me (sent you a PM). Hi neighbor! Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. :)

Welcome to BYC!

I am currently in Arkansas, but I originally grew up on Los Angeles, Bloomington, then Montebello.
It is refreshing to hear of people near my home-towns who raise backyard chickens!

Hi! I live in La Habra as well. Do you know if the coop has to be 50 ft from our residence as well, or just 50 ft from a neighbors? I wasn't really sure how to read the municipal code. It just said an adjacent structure. Does that mean it can be closer than 50 ft to our home? I am sort of confused. :hit

Here is what it says exactly "No part of any such bird house, cage, coop or aviary shall be less than fifty feet from any adjacent dwelling or place of business occupied by human beings for dwelling or business purposes."

Thank you so much!

Erin

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for quite some time doing research on chicken breeds, coops and everything else involved in raising backyard chickens. Thank y'all for all the information you've provided here!! It's amazing.

My bf and I live in La Habra, bordering LA and Orange counties. I checked with my city and then double checked the municipal codes online and we have one of those cities that says you can have fowl as pets but the restrictions really mean "no" for most people. We have to have a coop 50ft from any domicile and 10ft from property lines, and can keep up to 10 birds. The coop restrictions pretty much exclude most people. Luckily, my backyard is just large enough! Whew!

3 of my chicks are about 7 weeks old, and one is about 8.5-10 weeks old. I got 2 EEs, 1 Australorp and 1 plymouth barred rock named Barred-Rock Obama. :D How could we not name her that!?

We're in the process of building a coop and really need to start barricading our 6 veggie beds and maybe even somehow block their access to the patio. They're starting to tear apart my beds and keep coming to the patio to nap, socialize, beg for treats and do all sorts of cute things, but if course, that also comes with poop all over the place. I'm pretty much free-ranging them most of the time. They do have a temporary tractor that I sometimes put them in, but it's so delightful to see how happy they are when free-ranging.

I'm wondering if there are any BYC keepers near me? Fullerton, Rowland Heights, Brea, La Mirada, La Habra Heights, Whittier or other local cities? I don't think anyone else on my side of the neighborhood has chickens. It'd be great to know others nearby.
