and Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
to have you here with us. Enjoy your time here at BYC!
That is some really good info! Thank you so much. I don’t know anything but what I’m reading. What you said, I really didn’t know.Hello Tina, and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Many people get started with chicks either by purchasing them during "Chick Days" are local farm stores, purchasing sexed chicks of the breeds they want from any number of reputable on-line hatcheries or getting them from local/regional breeders.
Chicks that are inactive, peep a lot or sleep too much are usually not doing well.
An adult that is lethargic, isolating herself from the flock, walking with an odd posture or consistently has a poopy butt is likely suffering from some ailment.
Hi alwaystj! I’m in the country between Sunset, Church Point and Opelousas. I called the feed store in Church Point this morning and if he orders them, I have to get 25. I just want to start with 10. I will check in Carencro and Lafayette. But he did say that in our area Golden Sex Links are the best.Welcome from Zachary, Louisiana! This is a great group of people and there isn't much about chickens they don't know.
I suggest locating your local feed store or co-op (most towns in Louisiana have one or both) and talking to them. TSC is okay but there is usually a wealth of knowledge and experience at a locally owned feed store that is just not available at a TSC. Your local coop or feed store can be a great source for information on locals who raise chickens who may sell some. I often get my chicks at Zachary feed, they will order what I want and no minimums. Don't be intimidated about just walking in and asking for information on chickens, I love the co-op in Kentwood, Louisiana, but the first time I went there I couldn't even figure out where the front door was.
Are you on a farm, subdivision, homestead?
