I've been frequenting BYC for a while as a visitor, researching, etc. and finally decided to register and join in the fun. I'm extremely new to having chickens. I've had chickens (of the chick variety) for all of 2 weeks now... 3 barred rocks and 1 RIR (I couldn't resist the little fuzzy yellow RIR at the feed store). We live in a developed neighborhood, so no roos, but we are outside of city limits, so I'm not limited to a certain number of hens. I decided to buy 4 just in case one ends up being a roo, then I'd still have 3.
I'm a stay-at-home mom to one almost 13 year old son. I spend a lot of time driving car pool and picking the kid up from band practice, etc. My hubby is a computer guru/genius/geek and works all the time. It seems like computer servers always go down in the middle of the night or on weekends. We have one dog. She's a basset hound-catahoula leopard dog mix. She's loving the chicks! If she could climb in the brooder and groom them, I'm sure she would. When the chicks get extra loud, she always trots in there to make sure they are okay.
I've been on the forum a lot today trying to find info on a problem one of my BR chicks is having. It's nice to be able to search the forum and find threads that might help, so thanks to all!
I'm excited to raise some backyard chickens and have REAL eggs for a change!
